Writing of Life
There is this strong held belief in our culture that grinding out work and being work dedicated is something to be admired as a faultless quality. As a young person growing up in this expectation I had always carried an immense guilt surrounding my work ethic. I could never force myself to be as dedicated and discerning as the people around me and therefore I felt inadequate in my capabilities. Growing into an adult I found that this feeling was shared with many others in this life. The idea of having perfect attendance or following the rules to the letter started to seem more and more absurd to me. The idea that being perfect always is explicitly the opposite of how life in reality actually is. Life is messy and unpredictable and relentless, which is the exact quality that makes life so endlessly entertaining whether that is for good or for bad.
Writing is a parallel to life in this way, and should be tackled in a similar fashion. Once you approach writing with your own visceral feelings is when writing starts to work through you instead of for you. We as humans are characterized through our intellect, therefore, we look at life though an intellectual binocular that places everything in a box. When you finally understand that the box doesn't exist is when writing will expand and transform into your life.
So be visceral and engaging and magnetic through life and though words.
