Memoir Goals/Objectives

Writing this memoir I am hoping to be able to accurately describe my relationship with reading.  Through this I want the reader to hopefully relate to this experience in some way and understand it's okay to be different.  I decided to write about my experience with not liking books when I was younger.  However, I will center that with the story of how that all changed when I was in 6th grade.  It will be a challenge to not get caught up in the detail of the story, but I think if i stick to telling of this particular moment that will not be a problem.

From reading all of the example memoirs in class I am starting to get an idea of the kind that I would like to write.  My style of writing normally comes from a place of telling the story to the reader instead of showing the reading the experience through my eyes during that time.  Another possible pitfall might come from not getting my thoughts correctly written so that the reader doesn't relate to my experience in the way that I would like them to.

A good starting point might be making a list of all the details that I want to make sure and include.  Details like the emotion behind this experience, the specific epiphany experienced, and the introspection from my own mind.  These I believe will be important in making sure the memoir is portrayed correctly.  I sometimes get lost in thinking only of myself when I write and not thinking about how the reader will interpret what they read.  So I think a focus of mine should be making sure I don't make that mistake.
