Memoir Ideas and Proposals

Proposal One: Turbulent Relationship with Books

This is probably my favorite idea for my memoir because it was such an important aspect of my life that lead me to where I am today.  From an early age, unlike many English majors, I found myself hating books.  Ever since learning my ABC's in kindergarten the concept of school and learning was always a challenge for me.  However, being intelligent wasn't my problem, my issue was with the confidence I lacked in my abilities .  I hated being taught new concepts by other people because this normally resulted in me feeling inadequate to my peers who seemed to pick up school much faster and easier than I could.  Therefore, my hate of literature stemmed from my fear of failing at yet another school related task.  Chapter books looked like Mount Everest in my eyes and english homework grew increasing difficult.

Through this memoir I would like to illustrate how my relationship with literature grew from this starting point to where I am today.  This life event taught me how to overcome the fear of failure, while also moving my soul through the gift of literature.

Proposal Two: Perspective From a Girl in a Library Sitting in a Chair

This second idea is my most creative endeavor of the three proposals.  I would like to write an observational narrative from my point of view of a moment in time sitting in a library.  The opportunity to be more creative with this memoir idea makes me excited to write this piece.  I really enjoy creative writing and I believe with this particular moment in time I would be able to illustrate my experiences with a great amount of detail.  From this experience came a lesson in introspection, which taught me to find solace in being alone and finding the things that truly make you happy.

Proposal Three: The Art of Cleaning

Lastly my third proposal is on the observation around cleaning and how it has positively effected my life.  I want to talk about my lack of cleaning from teenage-hood into adulthood and how I observed a change in my self and my abilities once I created constant habits of cleanliness.  I was really influenced by my mother and how amazing she is at just letting things go.  I became inspired and created a new place for myself where being clean and organized is just who I am now.  This observational narrative will depict and journey and how it taught me the value in material things as well as the value of organized cleanliness.
