Week 11: Persuasion in Blogs
In the blog medium I think that that all of these ideas of persuasion are actually relevant to the content that is written. Though they are all important some are more important than others and not all need to be used to have a blog work. One of the more important ideas is the idea of consistency, which is a higher priority when making a blog. The reason for this is because in the digital age consistency is key if a blog or anything wants to stay relevant. This is because with inconsistency there is not enough stability for people to depend on when choosing to follow and listen to a blog. In this medium content fast content seems to be key in determining anyones success on the internet.
Authority and reciprocity are two big factors that I have noticed appear in the persuasive blogger medium. Without authority the reader will not have the confidence in the authors ability to speak on the information they are providing. The reader needs to have confidence that the author knows exactly what they are taking about because they have experience in the subject. With this authority comes a need for reciprocity in the blogging format. Reciprocity is important so that the author will gain from the sharing of information to the reader. Since the reader has gained a great deal from the author the automatic response of the reader is to give back. So without asking a blog can remain empowered by peoples need to give after receiving from the blog.
In the blog that I chose for the community blog, "https://thefinancialdiet.com/", the authors use all three of those ideas to persuade their audience. One example is the authority that they have because the authors tell their story of how they became financially aware. They have personal experience with the subject matter and this makes then a strong authority for the reader.
Regarding ethos, pathos, and logos I think any writing that is trying to be persuasive needs to use those techniques in order to persuade properly. They need facts, emotion, and authority to really persuade the reader to their point of view. In this way it does not differ from the traditional essay because both formats are using the same techniques just with different outcomes and mediums.
